William James Afflek Shepherd was a keen huntsman who specialised in humorous drawings of animals. He worked with Alfred Bryan the cartoonist of Moonshine, and contributed to Strand Mag, Punch, Sporting & Dr. News, as well as illustrating a number of books, inc. Uncle Remus (1901) and The Jovial Puppies (1907). He lived in Charlwood, Surrey and Cirencester, Glos.
