John Murray Thomson, RSA, RSW (1885-1974)

Crieff born animal Painter, who studied at the RSA Schools and won The Carnegie Travelling Scholarship to Paris. Taught at ECA. Exhibited (1912-1940) at the RA, RSA, RSW and elsewhere. Elected RSW (1917) and RSA (1940)

His painting of foxhounds and a terrier in a kennel, 16″ x 30″ was auctioned at Sotheby’s New York in 1988.

Educated at Morrisons Academy before attending Edinburgh School of Art. After graduating he built a reputation as one of the country’s leading animal artists and his work was much in demand.
