Biography: SARAH J K CLEGG
Born in Cornwall in 1962, Sarah is a self-taught artist who first picked up a paintbrush in the early nineties in an act of desperation three days before Christmas and painted a watercolour portrait of a friend’s daughter… Commissions to paint both humans and animals swiftly followed and she now has clients across three continents, with paintings in many private collections.
Capturing the essence of her subject’s character was her trademark from the very beginning of her artistic career, but Sarah now paints on an increasingly large scale in oils and reserves watercolour for smaller studies. She prefers to work from her own sketches and reference photographs, but will occasionally use those provided by a client if the quality is adequate and is always looking for inspirational material.
Her local hunts, The Cheshire and The Cheshire Forest, are a particular favourite source of subject matter. Sarah is the Official Photographer to The Cheshire Polo Club.Further afield, a recent commission took her all the way to Africa to paint two dogs for a client, and she is currently working on a series of wildlife paintings alongside her equestrian, hunting and shooting subjects. Sarah’s original paintings are available in the UK at Victoria Gallery in Cheshire from Lindsey Knapp (Tel 01829 720035 – Email: [email protected]) and are also exhibited in the US at The Shaggy Ram Gallery, Middlesburg, Virginia in the heart of ‘hunt country’. Limited edition giclees are available direct from the artist. Sarah exhibits regularly with the Society of Equestrian Artists (she is an associate member) both in London, Newmarket and Harrogate.
